Biography

Rodrigo Cardoso (1997) completed his bachelor’s degree in musical composition in 2018 at the Lisbon Higher School of Music, where he studied with the composers João Madureira, Luís Tinoco and António Pinho Vargas.
In 2021, he completed his Master’s degree in music education at the University of Évora, where he studied with the composer Christopher Bochmann, and his Master’s degree in composition at the Royal Northern College of Music, where he studied with David Horne and Adam Gorb.
Throughout his career, he has won First Prize in the 21st Century Composition Competition, the Gold Prize at the Oskar Rieding Project International Competition for Young Musicians (based in Slovenia), the Second Prize in the SPA/Antena2 Composition Prize, the Second Prize in the Portuguese Symphonic Band’s National Composition Competition, and the Second Prize in the Elvas International Music Composition Competition.
His music has been performed and commissioned by prestigious national and international ensembles such as the Lisbon Contemporary Music Group, Psappha Ensemble (UK), Riot Ensemble (UK), the Portuguese Symphonic Band, the Vintage Quartet, the Hermes Ensemble (BE) and the Ruach Ensemble (CH).
He currently divides his professional time between composition and teaching, lecturing at the Lisbon Academy of Music and the Torres Vedras Conservatory of Music and Physics.
